Love and kindness
Okay classmates I apologize in advanced for this blog because it is in no way positive. THis assignment not only frustrated me but actually made me angry. I can say it in no way helped me develop a sense of love or kindness. I started out visualizing my husband whom I adore. But then I remember the struggles we endure and remember that it was my prayers and devotions and faith that healed us. I honestly am having a hard time with this class in general. Then expanding to those who are hurting and enemies and so on. Meditating like this does not make me feel centered or focused on breathing out sickness, animosity or anything. My prayer and devotion does. I will never tell someone not to try new things so for clients I will suggest they try meditation or different forms of meditation whether it is through this type of exercise or prayer or walking along the beach. However these adios are not helping me relax at all they only are adding more stress. Again I apologize to those who read this, but this is how I feel towards the exercise. To each there own, but this is not for me.

There's no reason for you to change what has obviously been working for you for so long. Your honesty is appreciated. I liked the exercise but it didn't work at all using my husband who I also adore. I used my baby grandkids which helped. I'm very new to this meditation thing. I prefer to walk in my yard and think and pray but I'm making an honest effort with the exercises. Hang in there.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your honesty, Brooke. I have trouble with these exercises as well because my mind keeps wandering and thinking about not having a job and the car payment is due and of ALL the resumes I have sent out I have barely gotten any good phone calls. Like Dacher states new things require practice and an open mind. I do pray as well. We have a saying in Recovery "act as if" so I do the exercise and really work at them hoping to find new tools to add to what I have to help me relax and get to know my inner self. So please know there are others struggling too! I live in boynton beach...what city are you in? You look fabulous!

Hi Brooke! I can understand how these relaxation exercises can be frustrating for you. Sometimes you just have to be in the right place in life and the right state of mind to practice them. If you are already overwhelmed and consumed by other issues, your brain will not quiet down enough for it to work. I think it is great that you have other ways to get to through issues, like prayer, and you should continue to do whatever works for you!
ReplyDeleteHi Brooke!
ReplyDeleteThis exercise was a little difficult for me. I do not like having to change my thougts so many times. As for as when the person asked us to picture our loved ones and enemies too and breathe in their hurt and breathe out kindness, happiness and health, it was hard to do with people who hurt you. I agree that only prayer and faith can help that situation. Some meditations work and others do not. A person will just have to find the right one for them.
